Signs Your Back Pain Needs More Than Rest

adminadmin2 min read

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people search for a chiropractor — but not all back pain is the same, and not all of it needs the same response. Here’s a plain-language look at what commonly causes it, which signs mean it’s worth getting checked out, and how we approach it at Kent Kangley Chiropractic.

Common Causes Of Back Pain

Back pain shows up for a lot of different reasons, and the cause often shapes the right approach:

  • An awkward lift or sudden movement that strains the muscles supporting the lower back.
  • Years of everyday wear on the spine’s discs and joints, which can gradually contribute to chronic pain.
  • A car accident or other sudden impact — even a minor-seeming collision can strain the lower back’s muscles, ligaments, and joints.

Signs Your Back Pain Deserves A Closer Look

Most back pain improves with time and the right care, but a few patterns are worth having examined rather than waiting out:

  • Pain that radiates into a hip, leg, or foot.
  • Numbness or tingling alongside the pain.
  • Pain that lingers for more than a couple of weeks.
  • Back pain that started after a fall, collision, or other injury.

When To Seek Immediate Medical Care

A small number of back pain cases are medical emergencies, not chiropractic cases. Loss of bladder or bowel control, progressive leg weakness, or back pain accompanied by fever needs immediate medical attention before anything else — please go to urgent care or the ER first if you notice any of these.

How We Approach Back Pain At Kent Kangley Chiropractic

Every plan starts with a clinical exam to identify whether the pain is coming from the upper or lower spine and what movements aggravate it. If your exam findings call for it, we review imaging for disc or joint involvement rather than guessing. From there, your plan combines hands-on care — see our techniques page for the range of approaches we draw from — with exercise matched to what’s actually driving your symptoms. There’s no pre-set package of visits; your plan follows your exam.
